Anthropic opened a research preview of Duet on Oct. 21, an app where Claude checks your connected accounts and works on tasks while you're away, but asks before it sends, pays, signs or deletes. Google turned on Gmail Live, which answers questions about your inbox by voice, by default for organizations with Gemini. OpenAI added a way to hide sensitive chats. Gmail's AI Inbox reaches Scheduled Release domains on Oct. 26, and Anthropic's updated Usage Policy applies from Nov. 12.

Duet: a separate app where Claude works as a proactive agent
Duet flags what needs attention and completes tasks you ask for, including while you're away, on its own virtual machine. It checks your connected accounts every few hours. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it will do and waits for approval. Its background checks count toward your usage limits, and Anthropic warns it may misread a thread or what's urgent.

Duet reads and drafts without asking. The four actions above need your approval.

Gmail Live answers questions about your inbox by voice
Tap Live in the Gmail search bar and ask about your mail out loud; each answer comes with a card linking to the emails it used. It's on by default for organizations with Gemini in Workspace, and rolls out over up to 15 days from Oct. 15. Google says it respects the existing smart features and personalization admin settings, so admins control it there. Check the source card before you act on a spoken answer.

Locked chats hide selected conversations behind a PIN
Open a chat's more options menu (•••) and select Lock chat. It disappears from chat history, pinned chats and search, and opens with your 4-digit account PIN or device authentication. OpenAI says your retention and model-improvement settings stay unchanged, so a locked chat stays in your account and those settings still apply to it.

AI Inbox pulls to-dos and topic summaries from your email
AI Inbox suggests to-dos and deadlines from your threads and summarizes long discussions by topic. It first reached Rapid Release domains on Oct. 12; Scheduled Release domains start on Oct. 26, each over up to 15 days. Google says there is no admin control for it, and Starter and Education editions get it in the coming months. Open it from the Gmail menu once it arrives, and treat a suggested deadline as a draft until you've read the thread.

ChatGPT Slides builds decks your team can edit together
Ask ChatGPT in Work to create a presentation in Space, from a conversation, files, an outline or an example deck. You can edit text, images, shapes and charts, invite teammates to edit in real time, and export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides on the web. It's rolling out to eligible users, so it may not have reached you. Use it with work files only if your company allows it.

Enterprise admins can choose which roles use each connector
Admins on sales-assisted Enterprise plans can now decide which roles can use each connector. If your team connects Perplexity to company systems, ask your admin to match each connector to the roles that need it.
Perplexity changelog
- Workspace admins: decide on Gmail Live. It's on by default and respects the smart features and personalization admin settings.
- Lock the chats you'd rather not show, and remember your retention settings still apply to them.
- Before you join the Duet waitlist, list the apps you'd connect, and leave out any it doesn't need.
- Note Nov. 12, when Anthropic's updated Usage Policy takes effect.
