The agent got a badge.
Google's new coworker agents get their own work account, email address and place in the company directory, and every action is logged under the agent's name. The same week, OpenAI and Google made AI-made content easier to detect.

The agent gets its own login.
At its Gemini at Work event on Thursday, Oct. 8, Google Cloud introduced a single "universal agent for work" in Gemini, plus coworker agents you create by describing a role. Each coworker agent receives its own Workspace account: an email address, a calendar, Drive and a place in the company directory. Google says it "acts under its own identity rather than yours" and sees only what you share with it. Businesses get it first; Google gave no general-availability date or price.

- Sept. 25Microsoft: Autopilot keeps a distinct identity and workspace
- Oct. 8Google: coworker agents get a Workspace account and directory listing
Google also listed the controls. It says every action the agent takes is written to an audit trail attributed to the agent rather than to a person, its permissions are approved by the organization's security administrators, it runs in a sandbox, and its traffic passes through a gateway that enforces policy in real time. When a project hits its spend cap, that project's agent pauses until someone resumes it.
Google Cloud- Audit trail in the agent's own name
- A spend cap that pauses it
- A gateway that enforces policy
- A sandbox it runs in
- Permissions your admins approve
- Only what you share with it
Google's list of controls doesn't include naming a person who owns the agent. The company using the agent has to decide who answers for it.
Google CloudGoogle is the third large vendor in a month to treat an agent as a colleague with an identity. Earlier, on Sept. 25, Microsoft said Copilot's Autopilot agent keeps a distinct identity, memory and workspace, and on Sept. 23 Meta said its Muse agent will get its own email address.
VentureBeat · TechCrunchAn agent with its own account can be scoped, audited and paused like any other. Each one should also have a named owner, and someone to close the account when the work ends.

Answers with charts, forms and tools
ChatGPT can now answer with interactive graphics, buttons, forms and charts you use in the conversation. Rolled out to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on Oct. 7 (Enterprise depends on admin settings) and to Free and Go on Oct. 8. Work and Codex models are unchanged.
OpenAI GPT-6 - Anthropic · Claude Haiku 5.5 · Oct. 7
The small model got much cheaper
$0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 output for prompts up to 100k tokens. Anthropic says it costs around 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average. Sonnet 5.5's cache reads were also halved, to $0.10 per million.

A sidebar add-on, in public beta for all paid Claude users. It rewrites sections in Docs, writes formulas in Sheets and builds slides from your existing layouts. An "ask before edits" mode shows changes before they're applied.

Anthropic puts the average saving per task at around 75%, after a new tokenizer that uses slightly more tokens.
Anthropic HaikuHaiku 5.5 lists at a tenth of Haiku 4.5's input price. Try it on a task you already run on a bigger model, and compare the results before you switch.

On Oct. 5, OpenAI said it will add textGrain, an invisible statistical signal in the model's word choices, to ChatGPT and Codex text for eligible EU users over the coming weeks. The EU AI Act requires providers to make generated text identifiable by machine; TNW reports existing providers have until Dec. 2 to comply. API customers anywhere can opt in. The detector goes only to vetted researchers and organizations, case by case.
OpenAI watermark · TNWLight editing weakens the signal quickly. OpenAI also says detection is substantially lower for math.
OpenAI watermarkOpenAI's own tests show the limits. At a 1% false-positive target, it detected about 80% of 200-token passages and about 95% of 400-token ones. Swapping 10% of the words for synonyms cut detection to 66%; swapping a quarter cut it to 17%. OpenAI says that "the absence of a detected watermark does not prove human authorship." Separately, on Oct. 7 Google opened SynthID Detector to anyone for images, video and audio.
OpenAI watermark · Google SynthIDAgent actions and AI output got easier to trace.
Agents now act under their own names in a log, and AI text, images and audio carry marks a machine can check. Neither says who is responsible for the result; that is still the company's call.

Skills, second wave
Google's schedule has Scheduled Release Workspace domains getting Gemini skills from this date.
- Coming weeks
Watermarks in the EU
textGrain reaches eligible ChatGPT and Codex text. Watch whether other providers announce their own approach.
- By 10/31
Mistral's open weights
Mistral says it will release Mistral Large 4's weights by the end of the month; the API preview opened Oct. 6.
- Name an owner. Every agent account gets one person who answers for what it does.
- Share the minimum. If it sees only what you share, share the least that does the job.
- Set a spend cap and decide who's allowed to resume it.
- Don't treat a watermark check as proof. A missing mark doesn't show a person wrote it, and edits weaken it.

Before you go
- Onboarding
Google's coworker agents get an email address and a calendar on day one. Most new hires wait a week for a laptop.
- Watermarks
OpenAI's watermark lives in word choice. The thesaurus just became a privacy tool.
- Interfaces
ChatGPT now answers with forms. The chatbot has discovered paperwork.
